Nutrition and Education Center - Construction up date

The community of Patantic, ACONANI and Woodland are developing a nutrition and education program in Patanatic, Sololá area. The lack of access to nutrition and adequate training facilities are some of the critical challenges which are delaying a deeper impact and delivery of the program.

Since 2011, the community of Patanatic has been working on the construction of the Centro de Nutrición y Educación (Nutrition and Education Center) with the goal to provide nutrition classes, treatment and care of children, seniors and families. The center will provide training for 229 families.

To reach completion of the Nutrition/Education center the following supplies are still need it: doors, windows, ceramic tiles, electric supplies (switches, out locks, lamps, etc.), water pipe, water heater, and basic equipment.

The majority of the nutritional supplies used for training will be produced by the Patanatic community garden and farm. 

The garden will produce traditional vegetables (according to the season) such as carrots, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, potatoes, corn, black beans, cilantro, and other food crops. The farm will have chickens, rabbits and goats.  Other nutritional supplements and multivitamins will be purchased locally.

The dedication of the community shines through with their contributions of hand labor and many hours as volunteers.
