First time ever... dental care for children and families of Patanatic!

Heres is the Centro Educativo y Salud Patanatic- Guatemala July report.
It was an other exciting month!!!
The families of the community of Patanatic for first time ever had access to:
  • Dental Care
  • Annual female exam and prostate exam
  • Community Farm/Garden
Thank you to all of you that make this possible for the 229 Patanatic families and surrounding areas!



 Dental Care


Thank you to the Guatemalan volunteers Dentist Mercedes Samuc and Dentist Lisbeth Garcia for first time ever the families of Patanatic receive dental care.  A total of 64 patience that needs immediately care came to the clinic. Children and families were so thankful with the dentists.





Annual female exam and prostate exam

In partnership with Liga Nacional Contra el Cancer - Programa Piensa - INCAN,the Centro Educativo de Salud Patanatic, Woodland Charities and ACONANI ONG, the families of Patanatic have access to annual female exam and prostate test for the fathers for first time in the community. The patience receive education training in regards how important is these exams periodically. Professional staff of the INCAN perform the exams and the INCAN also provide with the results.  From the 60 patience that participated in these tests not one was diagnosed with cancer. These exams will be offered every year.

Community Farm and Garden


The Elementary School of Patantic officially started the Community Farm and Garden Patanatic-CFGP. This will be used to provide extra curricula educational activities and training to the students of 5th and 6th grade. They will learn about how utilize local resources for Nutrition and Production.
 In the CFGP there are chickens, goats and rabbits. The vegetable garden is growing: radish, carrots, cabbage and jalapenos.  All this products will be utilized to support the nutritional program in the school and also in the community. This project was possible thank you to the Distric Simplify Grant from Rotary District 5710 and the Lenexa and Olathe noon Rotary Clubs.


Reforestation campaign

Temple University Volunteers in collaboration with local leaders of Patanatic planted 960 new trees as part of the disaster preparedness initiative in the region.  Patanatic as many other communities in Guatemala during the raining season suffer natural disaster such mudslides.  The goal of planting these trees was to prevent more mudslides and also to protect the water springs of the community.  The vision is to plan at least 50,000 trees during the next two years.


School Medical Check ups

The Elementary School of Cerro de Oro and the Elementary School of Patanatic received an annual school medical check up.  A total of 383 students receive basic medical care as part of the Centro Educativo y Salud Patanatic outreach in the region. Students receive medicine and multivitamins during the school check ups.This was possible thank you to great work of the Temple University volunteers.

  


Doctors with a Backpack

During July a total of 39 home visits where made it with the goal to provide medical check up and/or diabetes check up to the senior of the community of Patanatic that cannot attend the clinic because the physical conditions. Local Nurses and Temple University Volunteers visited home by home providing medical aid.




Nutrition and Education Center - Construction

The Patanatic construction team continues doing amazing improvements in the NEC this month. They are working in the installation of the plumbing pipes, tile floor, electric wire metal windows and doors.
These improvements are made it thank you to the support of the Leawood Rotary Club, Olathe Rotary Club and Scholoegel Design Remodel Inc.
